Our new blogs will enable parents to find out what their children have been doing at school and to see what the next steps are in their child’s learning, which will enable more conversations and involvement at home with learning.
Using the blogs may appear slightly confusing to start with. Another academy in our Trust – Avenue Primary – has been using blogs in this way for the last three years, and so we know they will work well, and we have modelled what we are doing on theirs now that they have developed a good way of using them.
The blogs will celebrate children’s learning, and you may wish to send links to other relatives so that they can also be involved in what is happening. We have strict guidelines for staff on using the blogs and safeguarding is our top priority. If we ever post anything that you do not feel should be on the blog, please let us know and it will be removed immediately (e.g. photographs).
All of our blogs may be accessed from the main blog site at kingsley.education – when you type that into a browser, please type it into the address bar at the top, and not a Google search bar or similar. Each blog is identified by the year that the children in that group will leave the academy. For example, this year’s Y6 leave in 2018, so their actual blog can be accessed directly at 2018.kingsley.education
You will see the actual address of this blog by looking in your address bar now.
If you have more than one child attending the academy, you will want to keep an eye on several blogs. You may wish to bookmark the relevant sites in your browser, but we expect that many parents will wish to be kept updated through their mobile devices.
Good news! – each blog sends what’s known as an RSS feed. A feed is a function of special software that allows feedreaders to access a site, automatically looking for new content and then posting the information about new content and updates to another site. This provides a way for users to keep up with the latest information posted on different blogging sites. The address for each feed is:
If you want to be notified whenever something new is posted, use an RSS reader on your computer or mobile device. There are apps for iPhones and Android, and plenty of browser-based readers. Some will even email you when you get new content. Just search on the internet for RSS Reader.
We know these blogs will become an integrated means of our academy communicating with you and for you to be involved in what we are doing. It will take a few months to get the hang of it, and the teachers are learning about blogging for the first time too!
